I should write more
It's been years that I've been telling myself: Xavier, you should write more. Write like nobody is reading. Don't worry about it. It doesn't have to be perfect. But get in the habit.
Writing helps gets your thoughts together. It helps create a proper coherent narrative. Then why haven't I been writing more?
I've been lost between worlds. Not knowing where to go, where to put my attention, where to invest my time and energy. Exploring different things.
Trying to navigate that liminal space, the in-between space, the interstitium. Witnessing the old world crumbling down, getting hints of the new emerging world but still so timid and fragile, not ready to walk on its own.
Fighting the old world with its rules and regulation, its bureaucracy. Oh boy did I waste hours, days of my life doing accounting, trying to understand VAT regulations, trying to do things by the book. It's not only about the hours, it's also about the energy drain it creates. It's a lose lose situation. Not good for my mental health, not good for my productivitiy, not good for my contribution to society, not good for society. It's deeply broken.
I now realize that I should stop trying to work with the old world. Google didn't need to work with Microsoft Windows' rules (not a Windows app, just a URL), Facebook didn't have to work with Google's rules (they explicitly prevented google from indexing their pages). The new world will emerge once we find a way to create our own rules, independently of the current operating system.
So I plan to write more. About my journey so far and where I see things going. Stay tuned. You can subscribe by RSS or email, or simply by going to my website every now and then, when you feel like catching up. And please, nudge me if I haven't published anything in a while. Put some social pressure on me. I need it.
See you soon.
